Lady Hounds 2008-2009 Season Comes to a Close...

The Lady Hounds end their 2008-2009 season as the Conference 1A Division 2 Region 2 Semifinal Champions with a season record of 30W-6L. The Roby Lions defeat the Lady Hounds 37-44 in the Regional Final game at Abilene Christian. These two teams were evenly matched offensively and defensively. The first two quarters kept the Strawn fans on the edge of their seats. There was never more than a two point difference during the whole first half. At the end of the 2nd quarter, Strawn held a 1 point lead at 18-17. Roby had a run of back to back shots and pull ahead by 10 points at the end of the 3rd. Strawn rallied back in the 4th and took Roby’s lead down to 5 points. It was very exciting to see the hounds rally back with such energy. The hounds never let their guard down. The regional title was still within reach until the last seconds of the game. At the final buzzer, the Lady Hounds were a few points short to secure that regional win that would take them to the state tournament. Roby Lions remained ahead at the end of the 4th quarter. Congratulations to Roby.
The Lady Hounds worked long hours in the gym and secured wins on the road and at home. I, as well as, all the parents, friends, family, and fans are very proud of these girls and all that they have accomplished this year and in years past. We all hold a tremendous amount of respect for these girls. They put their heart and soul into each and every game. They played tough and strong, but also played with grace and humility. The Lady Hounds should stare straight into the face of adversity and be proud of how far they have come and look back at their accomplishments and achievements with self-content. To the seniors on this team, we say, thank you for dazzling us with your talent on the court. We have enjoyed watching your determination to excel in each and every game. You have made your school and community proud. To the freshmen, sophomores and juniors of this year’s 08-09 team, thank you for your commitment, talent, and heart. The torch of leadership is passed on to you for the future and to carry on the tradition of Lady Hounds basketball. To Coach Joe Crabb and Coach Denise Lee, thank you for your leadership and tenacity while coaching this talented team. A good coach can take the raw talent of players and shape them into athletes. Good luck next year and look toward the future with confidence.
