Today we wrapped up our planned activities for the 2023 Summer Library Program! Next Wednesday, July 5th, will be the last day to turn in reading logs to win prizes and then Mrs. Ellis will draw for the big cash prizes! Thank you to everyone who participated, learned, and played with us this summer! We had 67 in attendance this week, which makes for a total of 379 over the course of the last 5 weeks!
Thank you to Rose Jordan who gave us information and started our fossil hunt this morning at the Mineral Wells Fossil Park! All of our students (& chaperones) walked away with some fossils of their own! Thank you Mrs. Cormack for driving the bus and hunting alongside us, & our chaperones Ms. Beyer, Mrs. Milner, Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Mallory, Mrs. Ellis, and volunteer Itzet Hernandez!

On Thursday, June 29th, we will be going to the Mineral Wells Fossil Park and hearing from not only the Mineral Wells Chamber but also the Dallas Paleontology Society! That's not all! After their presentation, we will make our way down to the dig site to collect some fossils of our own!
It's going to be HOT! Please wear good shoes and light clothing, and remember to pack a water bottle and sunscreen!
If your student is interested, you will need to sign a permission slip beforehand. Paper copies can be picked up in the Strawn ISD Library and must be completed and returned before departure! Contact Mrs. Ellis with any questions! (254) 672-5776

2023-2024 School Supplies Lists

Thank you, Palo Pinto Mountains State Park Rangers James Miller & Jimmy Shipp, for having us out today! Our students were able to hike one of the trails and explore the beautiful park, which should open sometime next year! We looked for mammals, insects, birds, and plants while we hiked and learned some interesting things about nature. James & Jimmy were fantastic at furthering the conversations our students were already having amongst themselves. They expanded upon the kids' ideas, answered questions, and showed us many great things along the way!
Thank you chaperones Mrs. Abbott, Ms. Beyer, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Ellis, volunteer Itzet Hernandez, and a BIG thank you to Mrs. Cormack for driving us out and hiking with us!
This week in the Summer Library Program, our attendance totaled 70! Many of the kids have been bringing in their reading logs and earning fun prizes. We've got one week left of planned activities; come join in on the fun!

Week 3 of our Summer Library Program brought in 107 students! Big thank you to Art Sahlstein at ESC Region 11 for coming out to share his knowledge on fossils, hadrosaurs, and more! We had so many kids (42) with great questions, who got to hold fossils, and each of them went home with a crystal! Art brought these because crystals glittering on the hillside is what originally led him to the Arlington Archosaur Site! In addition to all of this, he discussed his finding of Scolomastax Sahlsteini, or as he affectionately calls it, The Little Nipper. This was such a fun presentation, and we are thrilled that so many were able to attend!

Another successful week of the Summer Library Program - our attendance this week totaled 79! We are so happy to see our students reading and learning over the summer.
Thank you, Greg Milner, for coming today to share your knowledge and skills on rock polishing! The children loved feeling all the different types of rocks and learning about the polishing process. Thanks also for giving each of them their own sample and a small bag of rock candy!
